iPhone 12 vs. Samsung Galaxy S20

In this article, we will discuss the comparison between the iPhone 12 and Galaxy S20. While the Galaxy S21 is out, the S20 is still a potent contender. The iPhone 12 also comes with the industry's best specs and features. Since the Galaxy S21 series is available for sale, we can expect the price of the S20 to reduce.

Specs

First, we will compare the specs of the iPhone 12 and Galaxy S20. Here is the comparison chart.

 Design

The iPhone 12 comes with a flat design, which is the most prominent feature of the most recent iPhone series. The display of this phone is also flat, allowing you to avoid accidental touches, which the Galaxy S20 gets a lot due to its curved design.

The ceramic shield display of the iPhone 12 makes it a more durable phone compared to the iPhone 11 during drop tests.

The Galaxy S20 is a taller phone compared to the iPhone 12. It is also a bit more lightweight.

If you are looking for more color options, you can consider getting an iPhone 12. The color options include black, white, red, green, and blue. The S20, on the other hand, comes in gray, blue, pink, and white. The big notch on the front of the iPhone 12 may not look good to many people. The S20 comes with a punch-hole that houses the camera.

Display

The S20 turns out to be an undisputed winner from the perspective of display in this comparison. The 6.2-inch OLED of the S20 is more advanced compared to the 6.1-inch panel of the iPhone 12. The Samsung handset has a screen refresh rate of 120Hz, which allows for super-smooth scrolling and swiping.

The screen resolution of the S20 is 3200 x 1440 pixels, whereas that of the iPhone 12 is 2532 x 1170 pixels. The S20’s display is also brighter and more vibrant compared to that of the iPhone 12.

Cameras

The Galaxy S20 seems more versatile compared to the iPhone 12 in terms of camera hardware. The Galaxy S20’s telephoto lens in addition to the wide-angle lens and ultra-wide lens makes the camera system more promising. However, the iPhone 12 proves to have an edge over the S20 in terms of performance. The photos taken by the iPhone 12 are sharper, brighter, and more natural compared to the S20. The only area where the S20 dominates is the optical zoom.

Performance

The iPhone 12’s A14 chipset beats the competition by a wide margin. The Geekbench 5 reported the iPhone 12 hitting a score of 3,859 on single-core and 1,593 on the multi-core test. The Galaxy S20, on the other hand, managed to score 3,147 and 867, respectively.

Another test that involved transcoding a 4K video to 1080p also proved iPhone 12 to be a more potent handset compared to the Galaxy S20. The iPhone 12 transcoded the video in just 12 seconds, while the S20 took 1 minute and 26 seconds for the same job.

The iPhone 12 also performed better than the S20 in the graphics performance test.

Battery life

From the perspective of battery performance, the S20 has an edge over the iPhone 12. The Galaxy S20 lasted 9 hours and 31 minutes on a web surfing test, while the iPhone 12 remained up for 8 hours and 25 minutes. Enabling 120Hz, however, resulted in the S20 getting depleted of its battery juice in 8 hours and 4 minutes.
